St Helen’s Church, Escrick – Interpretive Writing Training
Spark your creativity!
The Authentic Spark provided interpretive writing training for St Helen’s Church, Escrick. I led group workshops for volunteers as well as 1-2-1 mentoring for the project lead.

The group workshops brought together volunteers from the community for training in interpretive writing. We were joined by a nearby community group who wanted some tips for their own project!
Our first workshop looked at the principles behind interpretive writing. The volunteers had some practice in applying these to writing graphic panels. They went away to undertake further research and develop their own panel drafts for sites around the village. At the second workshop we collectively reviewed the drafts and practiced editing.

I also worked 1-2-1 with the project lead to support her development of the interpretation within the church itself. We planned the panel content together. We focused on bringing the writing back to first principles of who it is for and what is the ‘big idea’. I provided a critical eye on the drafts and supported the editing process.
